Demo 2010 – NUS and UCU are jointly organising a national demonstration – 'Fund Our Future: Stop Education Cuts' – to take place on Wednesday 10 November 2010
Terms and Conditions
1. Entrants must create a short film lasting no longer than 3 minutes (180 seconds) on The Value of Education. The video must promote the demo and include a demo logo and the website address: www.demo2010.org.
2. The competition closes at 17:00 GMT on 29 October 2010; entries submitted after this date will not be considered for the competition but may still be used at the national demo.
3. The winner will be notified by phone on Wednesday 3 November.
4. Entries must be uploaded to a video hosting website, such as YouTube, and the link to the video must be emailed to fundourfuture@nus.org.uk. You will receive a receipt for your video entry. The email you send with the link to your video must also include: The name, e-mail address and telephone number of the creator and the name of your organisation or institution.
5. Films must comply with the YouTube Terms of Use and must meet the following criteria: It must not be offensive, defamatory, libelous or contain any content that is inappropriate, sexual, slanderous or discriminatory in any way. It must not contain content that is unlawful or otherwise in violation of applicable federal, state, provincial or local laws.
6. If you have any technical problems with uploading your film, please contact us at fundourfuture@nus.org.uk.
7. This competition is open to anyone, except for those employed by the National Union of Students.
8. The National Union of Students is not responsible for any malfunction of the competition site or any late, lost or damaged films due to computer, network or telecommunication failures of any kind which may limit an entrant’s ability to participate.
9. Entrants agree to give the National Union of Students the right to broadcast the film online or in any other format for the purposes of the competition and the Campaign. Should the film be broadcast by the National Union of Students online or in any other format, the Campaign will acknowledge the entrant as the film maker and owner of the rights to the film.
10. The competition cannot pay for production costs or reimburse entrants for any costs incurred in the making or submitting of the film.
11. Entries will be judged by a panel of judges selected by the National Executive Committee.
12. Winners will be notified by email following the judges’ decision. A list of competition winners will be available on the national demo site.
13. Entrants may enter in teams. Please provide only one person’s contact details per entry. Prizes cannot be expanded to the number of entrants.
14. The prize is a one day course on Thursday 11 November facilitated by the National Union of Journalists: Video Blogging for Print Journalists Introduction. Reasonable transport costs from within the UK will be covered, along with a one night stay in London on the night of Wednesday 10 November. This will enable you to take part in the demo and see your video played at the rally.
15. The prize must be claimed before 5pm on Monday 8 November, 2010.
16. In the event that these dates are not suitable for the entrant, the prize will lapse. The prize is as stated and cannot be deferred or transferred. There will be no cash alternatives or compensation in the event that no date can be agreed.
17. The National Union of Students will not meet the costs of a non-UK based winner travelling to or from the workshop, nor any associated costs of accommodation or compensation for lost earnings incurred as a result of attending the workshop.
18. By accepting a prize, the entrant agrees that the National Union of Students can use his or her name and/or likeness and film for advertising and promotional purposes without additional compensation, unless prohibited by law.
19. The judge’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
20. The National Union of Students reserves the right to cancel this event at any stage. In this event, a notice will be posted on the national demo website.
21. The National Union of Students reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions at any stage, including changing or substituting prizes. In this event, a notice will be posted on website.
22. Any false information provided concerning identity, contact details, ownership of right or non-compliance with these terms and conditions may result in the immediate elimination of the entrant from the competition.
23. By entering the competition, entrants agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.
